The Cohousing idea originated in Denmark in the late 60’s and was introduced to North America in 1988 by Charles Durrett and Katherine McCamant, who coined the term “CoHousing” to refer to this style of development.  There are now more than 163 completed communities in the U.S. and Canada, and hundreds more in various stages of planning.
